No-exam life insurance
What no-exam underwriting is, who qualifies, and what happens if you don't.
A growing number of carriers offer accelerated underwriting: for applicants in their target age range and coverage amount, they make a decision from your application answers, prescription records, driving history, and other available data—without scheduling a paramedical exam. Many decisions come back the same day. Every quote on this site tells you whether an exam is expected, might be needed, or isn't required.
What it changes
Accelerated underwriting is not a shortcut around verification. Your answers get checked; if a policy is issued and the carrier later finds that you answered incorrectly, they can challenge it within the first two years. If their records reveal something that concerns them, they may ask for an exam or lab results anyway—and you can decide whether to proceed.
Who tends to qualify
Accelerated underwriting generally works for applicants under about 60, seeking coverage within the carrier's approved limits, with no serious health conditions and no tobacco use for at least the past year. If you've had a recent physical with blood work, some carriers will use that instead of scheduling an exam.
If an exam is needed, it's typically a 20 to 30-minute appointment with a paramedical professional who can come to your home or office in the Redding area. There's no cost to you. For applicants in good health, the exam often leads to a better rate class, so it's not always a drawback.
